1st Graaff-Reinet Scout Group

There are games… and then there are Scout games.
And few spark the same excitement, strategy, and full-throttle energy as the legendary favourite: Open the Gates!

On this action-packed evening, the Scouts of 1st Graaff-Reinet leapt straight into the fray. Patrols charged, defended, planned, and countered as the battlefield came alive with laughter, teamwork, and the unmistakable sound of boots pounding the ground. Open the Gates isn’t just about speed—it’s about communication, trust, and knowing when to make your move. Every Scout had a role to play, and every victory was earned together.

The video below captures the spirit perfectly: high energy, big smiles, and Scouts giving it their all.

Camp-Ready and Always Prepared

Once the dust had settled and the final gate had fallen, it was time to turn from play to preparedness. A true Scout knows that adventure doesn’t end with the game—it begins with being ready for anything.

Quartermaster checks were carried out across the patrols as Scouts inspected their patrol boxes from top to bottom. Pots, pans, stoves, ropes, and all the essential camp gear were checked, counted, and packed away properly. These moments may seem small, but they are where responsibility, pride, and good habits are built. A well-prepared patrol is a confident patrol—and camp-ready Scouts make for unforgettable adventures.

Skills Passed On, Traditions Continued

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing leadership in action. Patrol Leaders took the lead by showing our newest recruits how to build a camp wash stand—a classic Scouting skill and a rite of passage for every Scout.

With ropes flying, poles locking into place, and plenty of encouragement along the way, new Scouts learned not just how to build, but why it matters. Clean camps, teamwork, and shared responsibility are the backbone of Scouting life, and these hands-on moments are where confidence truly grows.

Watching older Scouts teach younger ones is a powerful reminder: Scouting is not just about learning skills—it’s about passing them on.
